We perform in wide range of Power System analyses on medium-high and extra-high voltage electrical networks. For electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies, we use PSCAD software developed by Manitoba Hydro International (MHI), a globally recognized tool widely adopted and required by leading electromechanical companies and major national Transmission System Operators (SO) worldwide.

We support our clients throughout all stages of the design, planning, and operation of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems, providing tailored solutions to address the challenges of the modern energy sector.

Thanks to our consolidated experience in the electromechanical sector, we offer a wide range of engineering, consulting, and advanced simulation services through advanced simulation models.

We use the industry’s leading simulation software tools, for which we are official resellers.

Power System Analysis Areas Using PSCAD/PRSIM

We provide specialized consulting services for electrical network analysis in the following areas:

EMT Simulations

  1. Analysis of lightning-induced overvoltages (FFO – Fast-Front Overvoltages) and internally generated overvoltages — including ferroresonance — caused by switching operations of circuit breakers/disconnectors in HV/MV networks (SFO – Slow-Front Overvoltages; TOV – Temporary Overvoltages; VFFO – Very Fast-Front Overvoltages), involving overhead lines, underground cables, submarine cables, air-insulated substations, gas-insulated substations (GIS), and power plants.
  2. Insulation coordination through digital modeling in compliance with IEC 60071 standards
  3. Transient Recovery Voltage (TRV) studies for HV circuit breaker verification in accordance with IEC 62271 standards
  4. Secondary arc studies on HV networks
  5. Thermal and dynamic withstand verification of ZnO surge arresters subjected to impulsive and prolonged stresses using network models
  6. Time-domain motor starting analysis
  7. Analysis of transformer energization phenomena, including inrush currents, sympathetic currents, and voltage dips associated with power transformer energization
  8. Black-start and network restoration studies following power system blackouts: EMT analyses for assessing synchronous generator self-excitation and temporary overvoltages caused by ferroresonance during transformer and iron-core reactor energization
  9. PSCAD model testing for conventional and DC arc furnaces

Grid Stability and Electromechanical Interaction Analysis Using PSCAD/PRSIM

  1. Dynamic performance testing and control tuning of PSCAD models for FACTS devices (SVC, STATCOM) and IBR systems (Grid Following, Grid Forming) provided by manufacturers
  2. Mechanical shaft stress analysis on rotating machines caused by automatic line reclosing
  3. Grid impact studies for renewable energy generation plants (PV, wind, BESS) and conversion systems (HVDC):
    • Reduced network generation for EMT studies from transmission network models developed in PSS/E or DIgSILENT PowerFactory, including benchmarking activities
    • Sub-synchronous oscillation studies:
      • Purely electrical sub-synchronous resonances caused by series-compensated transmission lines
      • Torsional sub-synchronous resonances caused by interactions between IBR controls and synchronous machines
      • Interactions between IBR control systems operating within the network.

Other Power System Analysis Services

  • Power flow studies for HV networks
  • Short-circuit studies for HV networks
  • Dynamic stability studies for HV transmission systems
  • Harmonic analysis
  • Flicker studies

Basic and Advanced Power System Training Courses

We actively collaborate with the Manitoba Hydro International team to organize basic and advanced training courses on PSCAD software for power system analysis applications.

We researched and developed Swift Mosaic; a simple and fast calculation software capable of estimating the performance of devices in just a few steps, simplifying development processes and streamlining time.
